Arrests made in string of Chattanooga-area incidents, including assault, kidnapping, street fight | Chattanooga Times Free Press (2024)

CARJACKING

Chattanooga police are searching for a male suspect in a Friday night carjacking, according to a news release.

About 11:15 p.m., officers responded to the 1200 block of East 34 Street, where the victim said he was sitting in his sister's car listening to music when he was approached by a man who presented a gun and made the victim get out of the vehicle. The suspect then quickly fled the scene in the vehicle, the release states.

Police are searching for the vehicle and the suspect, who was described as thin, white, appearing to be in his 20s and wearing a black hoodie and jeans. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call 423-643-5100 or submit a tip via the Atlas One App (formerly the CPD Mobile App). Tipsters can remain anonymous.

ASSAULT

Also on Friday, police responded to an aggravated domestic assault call about 5:40 p.m. in the 2500 block of O'Rear Street. When officers arrived, the victim said a male suspect had pointed a gun at her. Police were told the suspect was owed money by an occupant of the home but was told to come back another time to get the money. When the suspect became angry, he pointed the gun at the victim and left the scene, according to a news release.

A description of the suspect and his car led to the arrest of Bryan King, who was charged with aggravated assault a short time later.

KIDNAPPING

About 8:15 p.m. Friday, officers responded to an aggravated kidnapping involving a barricaded gunman in the 2100 block of Chestnut Street. Multiple 911 callers stated a woman had been dragged into an apartment, and police found signs of a struggle at the scene. Police were able to make contact with the victim after several attempts to get a response at the residence.

Police were told the suspect forced his way into the victim's apartment while she wasn't home. When the victim arrived home, he grabbed her, assaulted her, pulled her into the residence and locked the door behind them, according to a news release.

Police found the suspect inside the residence along with weapons alleged to have been used in the assault. Christopher Walton, 45, was arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping, false imprisonment, aggravated domestic assault, aggravated burglary, interference with emergency calls, weapon law violations and drug charges, the release states.

STREET FIGHT AND SHOOTING

Then, at 9:04 p.m., police responded to a large street fight and shooting on the 4100 block of fa*gan Street. Officers arrived at the scene and found chaos, with multiple people leaving the area and others retreating to a residence. One victim told police a man threatened them by flashing a gun, while a second told police they'd been hit with a gun, according to a news release.

Police made contact with two suspects inside the home and located a firearm believed to have been used in the incident. Robert Blocker, 42, was arrested and charged with domestic aggravated assault, and Martemius Smith, 23, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, according to a Police Department spokeswoman.

CRASH

Early Saturday morning, a driver was arrested after a single-vehicle crash in the 1900 block of Suck Creek Road. Police responded to the scene about 1:30 a.m. and found a vehicle on fire in a ditch with a downed utility pole and wires. The three occupants of the vehicle were outside the vehicle and were treated for minor injuries.

Police were told the vehicle was driving behind another when it suddenly swerved to avoid a collision. The driver then lost control of the vehicle, which hit the pole and landed on its side in the ditch. The driver, Anthony Warrick, 24, was arrested and charged with DUI, failure to exercise due care and reckless driving, according to a news release.
