Rose Tree Festival continues offering free concerts each week

The free Rose Tree Park Summer Festival continues with a stellar lineup through Sunday, Aug. 20 in Rose Tree Park, 1671 N. Providence Road, Media.

All shows begin at 7 p.m. Attendees should bring their own chairs and blankets.

Community Arts Center debuts art exhibit with reception

The Community Arts Center will present its 2023 Members Exhibition through Friday, Aug. 25 in the Duke Gallery at Community Arts Center, 414 Plush Mill Road, Wallingford.

The exhibition showcases the work of adult members of the center. The work is in various media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, functional pottery, photography, printmaking and more.

In addition to the exhibition, art will also be on display in the CAC’s smaller galleries.

Nancy Markezin’s exhibit will be in the Lounge Gallery and artworks by members of the Pastel Open Studio will be in the Stairwell Gallery.

Linvilla Orchards’ Peach and Sunflower Festival

Linvilla Orchards, 137 West Knowlton Road, Middletown Township, will hold its Peach and Sunflower Festival, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5.

Alongside their peaches and picturesque sunflowers, Linvilla has a jam-packed lineup of free activities and entertainment planned.

Silly Joe, the enthusiastic host for the festival, will entertain the kids with his infectious songs, comedic antics, and lively performances while he introduces an array of captivating experiences from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Elmwood Park Zoo will provide live animals, as well as a fascinating collection of furs, feathers, shells, and skulls for guests to touch and explore between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Get ready to groove to the rhythm of music with Paul Downie and Friends at 1 p.m., when the band takes the stage to perform a sound they describe as rhythm and soul.

Delco Helping Hands’ End of Summer Bash

Delco Helping Hands will present an End of Summer Bash to kick off the school year, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6 at Henry Johnson Park in Trainer.

Brookhaven car show Show for Hope III

The Show For Hope III will be held on Sunday, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Coebourn Elementary School, 1 Coebourn Blvd., Brookhaven.

The third Show for Hope will benefit the Hope for Hallie Organization.

Free to spectators, the car show will feature all years, makes, models, and types of vehicles and feature music, raffles, 50/50, food, local vendors and more. Gates open at 9 a.m.

Also, there will be a small ceremony dedicating the adjacent Butterfly Sanctuary in Brookhaven during the show, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Hallie Christine Jackson Butterfly Sanctuary was created to have a space dedicated to mental health and the protection of butterflies and other species. Volunteers will maintain the site.

Hallie tragically lost her her life in 2019. The sanctuary was named in her memory.

The tragedy led to the founding of Hope for Hallie, an organization dedicated to helping teens and adolescents with their mentalhealth and to transform the conversation surrounding mental health.

Heinz Refuge’s free family fishing day

The John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge At Tinicum will offer a family fishing day on Thursday, Aug. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Refuge volunteers and staff will help newcomers to the sport to hook their first fish. Rods and bait will be available for loan or people are welcome to bring their own.

Concord Township’s concert in the park

Concord Township will present a Summer Concert in the Park on Thursday, Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. at Concord Township Park, 701 Smithbridge Road. The folk band Bailey Run will perform.

Attendees are asked to bring their own blankets, chairs and snacks. Concessions will be available for purchase.

Summer concerts in Glen Providence Park

The 2023 free Arts in the Park monthly entertainment series on Saturday nights in Glen Providence Park in Media, presented by the Friends of Glen Providence Park, will continue with the following performances:

• Aug. 12: Gong with the Didge will take the audience on a sacred and meditative journey in sound with instruments from around the world, including didgeridoo, gongs, conch shells, Vibraphone and percussion.

• Sept. 16: Entertainment will be by Brian Kors and Lone Star Revue, a fun band that draws inspiration from the many threads of roots music that flowed from places like New Orleans, Memphis and more.

Community Engagement Fair in Chester

The 14th annual Community Engagement Fair, presented by Keystone First and the Better Living Center, will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13 at 1917 W. Sixth St., Chester. The rain date is 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19.

The free event will feature gospel singer Jermaine Dolly, refreshments, health screenings, book bag giveaway, live performances, kids’ entertainment, free counseling and more.

Marple Presbyterian’s VBS for children

Marple Presbyterian Church, 105 N. Sproul Road, Broomall, will hold a vacation Bible school Monday, Aug. 14 to Friday, Aug. 18, nightly 6:30 to 8:30.

All children from 3 years to those going to sixth grade are invited to the camp, which will feature music, snacks, games and learning Bible stories.

Ridley library’s Rapunzel Princess Party

Ridley Township Public Library and Resource Center will host a free Rapunzel Princess Party from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Children, ages 3 and older, can join Rapunzel from Disney’s “Tangled” for stories, songs, dancing, games, and a craft.

Presented by Sew Classy Royal Events, the program is generously funded by the Friends of Ridley Township Library. Children may dress in costume.

Glenolden to holds fireworks celebration

The rescheduled date of Glenolden Borough’s fireworks celebration is Saturday, Aug. 19 at the Interboro Athletic Complex, 283-299 W. South Ave., Glenolden.

The celebration will have food, music, games, and a fireworks display from Skyshooter Displays.

Music and fun starts at 7 p.m., with the fireworks happening at dusk.

Ridley Township offers free movie night

Ridley Township will hold Family Movie Night, featuring the movie “Luca” on a 20-foot screen, on Friday, Aug. 25 at 9 p.m. on the front lawn of the Ridley Township Municipal Building. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets.

Free snacks and water bottles will be provided through the generosity of sponsors, that include The Ridley Township Board of

Commissioners, Capozzoli Catering, Mattus and DiGiacomo Allstate, Verone’s Collision and Relish.

All children must be accompanied by adults. Rain date is Aug. 26.

CPR training offered at St. John Chrysostom

St. John Chrysostom Parish in Wallingford will host an American Heart Association CPR and AED training class from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26.

The class is free, including materials. The class will cover CPR, choking and use of an automated external defibrillator for adults, children and infants.

Haverford Township Music Festival

The 11th annual Haverford Township Music Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9 from noon to 9 p.m.

The festival will offer a full day’s worth of free entertainment, headlined by internationally renowned recording artists Dana Fuchs,

The Split Squad, and former NBC’s “The Voice” contestant Devix, supported by numerous regional performers from throughout the Delaware Valley and beyond, on multiple stages near Eagle and East Darby roads, Havertown.

Area business sponsors and vendors will fill booths along the adjacent East Hathaway Lane. There will be food vendors, beer gardens, children’s activities and much more end-of-summer fun for the entire family.

Ongoing events

• PA Veterans Museum offers free admission all year

Although donations are appreciated, the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum is always educational and free.

The museum is located at 12 E. State St., Media, on the lower level of the historic Media Armory, below Trader Joe’s.

The museum features personal memorabilia and interactive kiosks that tell the history of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, through the eyes of those who served in the military.

• Delco’s new playground at Rose Tree offers fun for kids

The new destination playground in Rose Tree Park, 1671 N. Providence Road, Media, is designed to be inclusive of children of all abilities, has a large climbing tower for children ages 5 to 12.

There will be a swing zone, a spinning zone and an area for children 2 to 5 years of age.

• Media Free Store offers summer shopping and drop hours

Transition Town Media’s Free Store, 350 W. State St., Media, is open to shop Wednesday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Drop off donations on Wednesdays from 4 to 8 p.m. and Sundays noon to 4 p.m.

Everything at the Free Store is available for free to people who need it, can use it or will pass it along. The store certainly helps low income individuals, but everyone is welcome to shop at the store.

The TTM FreeStore is a part of Transition Town Media and serves as a place to donate used items in good condition and take, for free, items that can be used or repurposed. For more information, visit the TTM Free Store’s Facebook page or visit http://www.mediafreestore.com.
